Summit Concept to foster the Tri-Sector Approach to Preparedness
Building on the efforts of the CDC Foundation, the Harvard School of Public Health and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation in their Meta-Leadership Summits for Preparedness, empower local communities to develop at least one annual Summit, within a community or region, designed to continue to foster the tri-sector relationships between the private sector leadership, the government/public safety sector, and the non-profit sector that the Meta-Leadership Summits encourage.
One of the most powerful aspects of the Meta Leadership Summits is the concept of relationship-building that is to be fostered during the Summit between these three sectors to build future resilience. A more structured approach on a national level to promote the concept of bringing together leadership in these three sectors within a community, at least annually, will contribute to a community's resilience.
Within our region, we have developed the Summit for Threat Preparedness and Response (TPAR Summit) as that follow-up summit, conducted annually, that is designed to follow up the training derived from the EmPreps course on a local level (previous idea submission) expanding the training to a more regional level. This type of summit (usually a 2 day event) pulls in leadership from around the region to hear experienced leadership from state and national leaders to speak on the topics of current threats and preparedness ideas and how best to handle potential threats. The other important aspect of the Summit, again, is to continue to re-engage the tri-sector leaders within a community and region to build their relationships, prior to the next event.
TPAR Summit Mission Statement
To provide a forum for leaders in business, government and non-profit sectors to come together on an annual basis and learn of new techniques and thinking related to threat preparedness and response from national and world leaders. During the Summit a setting is created to facilitate interaction and networking of leaders in the three sectors, providing an opportunity for each to become familiar with the roles and responsibilities of those in attendance, empowering them to work together more cohesively in the event of a major disaster, whether it is natural or man-made.
Vision Statement
The vision for the Summit of Threat Preparedness and Response is to empower the private sector, the government/public safety sector and the non-profit sector to be better prepared for the unexpected emergency, improving the safety of individuals living within our communities and, through proactive planning, enable these three entities to work together more effectively in the midst of situations that otherwise would have caused a significant loss to life, business operations, and future economic growth.
