Collaborate with faith and community based organizations to identify and plan for their ideal role in emergencies and disasters

Description/Justification: Delaware is currently conducting this outreach. The purpose of this outreach is multi-faceted: 1) That through collaborative training, organizations may be better prepared to plan for health management of their communities during emergencies and disasters, to include preparing to continue the unique social, emotional and spiritual support they offer their communities, 2) That communication channels can be built between government agencies and trusted leadership throughout the state for superlative reach and impact in messaging during emergencies and disasters, to include giving organizations a chance to consider and communicate culturally specific issues, concerns or considerations, and plan for them internally, 3) That public health can learn about the diverse characteristics, vulnerabilities and assets within Delaware and organizations can learn more about what to expect from government during emergencies and disasters, and 4) That the population experiences optimum levels of health, hope and resiliency by having their values and traditions protected by the organizations that uphold them, during times when they need them more than ever: emergencies and disasters. Times of uncertainty and anxiety pose needs that vary from person to person, and thus the need for culturally tailored health preparedness, management and messaging. It is hoped that faith and community based organizations are strategic mediating structures to create this type of network. The workshops that Delaware is conducting include an interactive presentation, and then the distribution of a Household Assessment Tool, Organizational Assessment Tool and Disaster Planning Template. Participants work together to practice using the tools, then take them back to their own organizations to tailor them to their own needs.
