As a modern man, I am blessed with the ability to forget all of the useful things I was sent the market to buy.  I am guessing there are others like me.  This also means that I often remember that I need to buy emergency items for the house or car but they rarely get remembered in the store.

For those of us that are truly uninspired and with little imagination, some supermarkets have recipe cards with ideas for meals using items from their stock. 

Why not have a FEMA endorsed Resilience recipe with all the ingredients for an emergency bag that are available from the store (torch, bottle water, matches etc.). I'm guessing that the stores would be interested to play along as they would be seen as contributing to the community and they might sell more items.

These items could be marked on the shelves next to the price tag with a resilience logo, reminding me once again to be better prepared.
