Collaberation Platform for Disaster Relief
I propose that the governement or other group create a platform or collaberation website...sort of like social networking, but purely for disaster relief.
Within the collaberation platform or website, nonprofits, groups, corporations, and individuals can create a profile with a discription of what they are capable of contributing and perhaps their radius of influence.
When disaster strikes, a google-type algorithm can connect the dots between the needs of the people, their health, their homes, animals and wildlife, safety, needs for fresh water, food, clean clothes, volunteers, donations, protection from looting, places for temporary housing, construction, transit, down to simple management, media or education efforts, list of grants, and even an area to pool a collection of relief money from the general public.
I believe this would be an efficient way to cover all the bases in a timely manner. Many times, resources are just randomly thrown at a project, because we are counting on everyone's speed to provide quick aid. Many times, it's all for publicity and the help is ill directed. People will get their fresh water, but some of their basic and easy needs may not be met in the random hustle of things. With a collaberation platform/website, everyone can meet in ONE spot and address the issue as ONE conglomerate team working together for the same goal. Everyone can view the efforts of others and determine where and how they can help further. A general plan can be displayed for all to view, so everyone is on the same page. A list of goals can be displayed so people know which items are crutial and missing. The platform can help micromanage our efforts like an exact science.
Technology can contribute to the efficiency of our disaster relief. This platform will direct resources better, quicker, and more efficiently. One mission...One place...One goal...involving everyone.
Thanks,
-Kat
