Holistic Community Preparedness
Community Prepredness must not be left only for Governemnt, but all aspects of the community ned to play their part. Increasing awareness and educating all is vital, so communication and actions remain consistent, from the President down to the homeless on the streets. Faith-Based Organizations, are no exception, they must be trained and also collaborate with all involved in Community Preparedness--Lw Enforcement, Fire Department, Hospital, City Governemnt, Mayors, Schools and Businesses, so that they can also effectively assist in times of crises. Their structures must be assessed for shelter space, food distribution and counseling, and parishioners trained depending on their skills-all families should have at least one person with CPR/First Aide.
Families-single or married--need also to be educated and children as well, with material pending their developmental or literacy level. All emergency personnell must be culturally competent and special atatention paid to the disabled, mentally ill, hearing and visually impaired or those with chronic diseases affecting mobility.
A great strategy to implement now is teaching all-children, youth, adults and seniors how to manage stress and crises situations.
- practicing healthy diet, exercising,
- addressing one's spirituality, hobbies,
- networking, reducing alcohol/drugs addictions and
- switching to healthier alternatives,
will help people cope better and be more resilient during the times of disasters-which are imminent. These are very trying times, we all must work together-there's a job for everyone-the time for preparation is now!
