Winner Announcement Pushed Back Again
Winner announcement pushed back for a third time! Clearly, FEMA 1) did not anticiapte the inventiveness of individuals and communities, 2) did not anticipate the number of very good submissions, or 3) FEMA doens't have the resources to adequately follow through on this Challenge. Could there be other reasons?

All I know is that from the perspective of someone who put a lot of work into an original submission, it's very frustrating to see the announcement being pushed back time and time again with no explaination or further information from FEMA. Is this challenge even open to new submissions at this point? I don't understand why this is languishing.

I agree, Adam. I was very enthusiastic about this a couple months ago and put a good amount of work into my submission. I am not understanding what the issue is. It is frustrating and I am losing interest.

Try waiting 2 years... especially when you know that had your idea been implemented when it was offered; thousands of lives would have been saved worldwide.
My idea was not submitted here, and not gratuitously, but is in the Library of Congress as part of the Quadrennial Homeland Security Review. It was sent to the President, the Secretary of DHS, General Counsel for DHS, HSAC, NOAA, 2 Administrators of FEMA, 8 Governors, 16 Senators, Commandant of USCG, 3 Star Lt. General US Army, and specific NGO's.
Thinking of ways to prepare our communities before disaster stikes is not a contest or a challenge; it is a perpetual necessity for the sake of safety. We need every advantage we can get and any viable amelioration must be implemented as soon as possible. We live under a constant threat of some pernicious event. The safety and security of the American people is the primary function of government. Leadership requires decision.

I suspect that FEMA's attorneys are pouring over the submissions and assessing any Intelletual Property issues.

OK let's take ONE step back and take a look at what is going on .
Budget cuts
Disasters
Staff movements
and that is what we are hearing in Oz
So HOW MUCH IS A LIFE WORTH? …………."PRICELESS"
That is what the Challenge is asking and to see how WE TOGETHER can help.
Many great ideas from many great people and organisation
So sit back RELAX and enjoy the day as there is ALWAYS somebody worse off .
At the end of the day it is always about saving lives through Education and Response

I am very excited to see who the winner is (please be me, please be me). Having said that, I think some poeple are missing the point. This is not a contest were the winner gets a huge prize package, the get mentioned on the FEMA website. I think the biggest prize that we all get out of this, is the opportunity to learn from all the submissions. I certainly think my idea is a good one (possibly the best idea ever thought of), but we as a preparedness minded community have had the chance to see some good ideas, that we may not have thought of as individuals. Yes, it has been frustrating to see the announcement pushed back, but let's put things in perspective. Good luck to all (me).

Looks like somebody got tired of waiting for something to happen here. Until yesterday there have been 188 submissions -- now there are 187. It might be best if FEMA just took this site down and let the challenge die a quite death.
