Original Ideas

I will not belittle anyone by calling any of these ideas out but 95% of the ideas I have read are not original ideas I just hope FEMA is not going to use or give credit to the ideas that were originally someone else’s. Education, awareness, and community involvement are excellent ideas but if you go to FEMA’s website they stress that to the fullest extent already and makes up most of the community involvement part of the website. None of these are bad ideas but they are the same ideas FEMA already has just recycled. There are some that have ideas that 4 or 5 people have the exact same idea. Which one would you give the credit for winning? In other cases some of these ideas have been around for years, aren’t there still copyright infringement laws? I am not trying to be controversial I just want to see a great original idea win. I would also like to see them add a prize trip to a conference in Hawaii for 2 talking about how they are going to implement the winner/winners idea, hey FEMA operates Hawaii too. :)

The 303 Plan is designed to prompt you into bringing your family together and while your family is together, taking a look at your families safety in the home and exercise your Family Safety Plan.

The 303 Plan, (303 = spend 30 minutes, every 3 months with your family exercising your plan), this was created to better prepare both organisations and your family to help you in the initial 24 hours after a disaster by creating and exercising your family safety plan.

Having an Emergency safety plan in place prior to an incident for The First 24 Hrs. can mean the difference between life or death, health or sickness, security or chaos.  With an effective exercised 303 plan in place, then you are better prepared to be your own disaster first responders, helping to increase your survival chances until official help arrives.

The 303 Plan addresses important questions like:

    •           What would you do in case of a disaster?
    •           Where would you take your family?
    •           Where could you go that was safe from fires, tsunamis, or earthquakes?
    •           How could you get there?  What would you take with you?

The family emergency plan answers these questions. It engages the families in The 303 plan calling for "a simple and easy to understand plan exercise", even making it a fun family activity

I respect what you are saying. A lot of these are duplicates and many I have already seen in action. I am excited to see how they choose a winner. Good points.

The way we improve the buildings and structures is an original concept and innovation in my entry, fyi. Continuous structural frame reinforcing that adds total frame damping plus post-tensioning performances has never before been tried or implemented, and not even in the Building Codes and Standards as yet. The improvements are real and proven, but just hasn't caught on yet in the Construction Industry. When these new frame reinforcing methods are implemented in disaster prone communities, there should be a major drop in destruction of buildings and structures, plus all the related benefits.
